And, yes, the struggle to somehow remain civil towards in-laws, friends, friends-of-friends, distant acquaintances and current beaus whom you don’t know but to whom you absolutely must be civil, lest you invoke the wrath of the friend or family member you know who’s dating them—and, of course, that of the host as he/she watches another Thanksgiving dinner devolve into a shouting match before the bird’s even cold.

However, there actually are ways to get through holidays such as Thanksgiving with your in-laws without losing your head (or appetite.)
