America, swinger 1976.  It’s the nation’s bicentennial year. Gerald Ford has lost the Presidential election to some young upstart peanut farmer named Jimmy Carter, and millions are excited (for the moment.)  A little movie by the name of Star Wars was just a year away, John Madden was still coaching football (and even more shocking, the Oakland Raiders were winning!) and “late night TV” meant one thing—The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.

USA as a nation were moved by such immortal Billboard Top 100 beats as Play that Funky Music, You Should Be Dancing and, of course, that epitome of Post-Modernist poetry, (Shake, Shake, Shake) Shake Your Booty.

O brave new world, that had such groovy, funky, far-out, surely timeless music and fashion trends in it!

What a strange and exotic world 1976 was

Elsewhere that year?

High gas prices, a stagnant economy, worry over manufacturing jobs being shipped overseas, political scandals, and more than one conflict brewing in the Middle East.

…OK, so maybe history has a way of repeating itself.

(And suddenly Miley Cirus’s twerk-twerk-twerking her booty makes a little more sense now…a little.  Or not.)

And more than that, we as a culture were enjoying many a revolution at this time, and one that continues that continues to show its influence today is the idea of a Swinger and Swingers Parties.
