#6: Participation in Support Groups – A Must for Children with Aspergers

I mentioned earlier that I had joined several support groups to help Andrew. I cannot stress how important these sessions were, because it meant the world for him.

The group usually consisted of children suffering from various issues including Autism, Aspergers, Dyslexia, and Depression. I was glad that we had joined these groups since it helped Andrew understand and meet more children like him.

His confusion probably stemmed from the fact that he was different and amazingly, children with Aspergers pick up such things even at such a young age.

Most importantly, he learnt that it was OK to be confused sometimes. He was taught that it was alright to simply say, “I don’t know what to do” whenever he was confused. This also helped reduce his anxiety and make him realize that he could communicate in a better manner if he tried.
